Yesterday afternoon Frank Howkins was telling me about his experience as a boy. Frank is now head of a very large company, but as a boy, he used to work at a small shop. It was his job to repair bicycle and at that time he used to work fourteen hours a day. He saved money for years and in 1999 he bought a small work-shop of his own. During the war Frank used to make spare parts for aeroplanes. At the time he had two helpers. The United Nations is a voluntary association of nations. It was organized to keep peace, to promote the general welfare of people, and to gain respect for individual liberties and the right of the people to determine their own future.

The United Nations, like many national governments, has organs, or divisions. The General Assembly which the main organ of the UNO can admit a new member only if the Security Council recommends the admission. The Security Council cannot recommend a nation for membership unless the permanent members of the Security Council (the US, the Soviet Union now Rusia, the UK, French and China) agree.

The gallery at the Chady Hotel, just north of Ubud, exhibit the work of three artists this month, two from Bali and one from Japan.
